Travelling exhibition on the MATRIX OF WORK at the Karl Marx House Museum

Panel discussion and exhibition opening

30 October 2025, Karl Marx House Museum, Trier

As part of the opening of a travelling exhibition on the history and future of work, a high-calibre panel discussion took place.

The panellists discussed:
- Dörte Schall, Minister for Labour, Social Affairs, Transformation and Digitalisation of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate
- Timo Ahr, Deputy District Chairman of the DGB Rhineland-Palatinate / Saarland and SPD Member of Parliament in Saarland
- Korinna Schönhärl, Professor of Modern History at the University of Trier and
- Cornelius Markert, Managing Director of the Institute for the History and Future of Labour.

The event was moderated by Alexandra Jaeger, a consultant for trade union history in the Public History Department of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung.

The starting point for the discussion was the exhibition itself, which offers a fundamental historical orientation for the current debate on the future of work. Against the backdrop of artificial intelligence, automation and demographic change, historical lines of development are visualised and placed in relation to current challenges.

Following the panel discussion, the travelling exhibition was officially opened. It was on site for a month and met with great interest in advance. The combination of historical classification and current labour and socio-political debate promised a broad exchange with the public.
