Lecture at the House of the History of the Ruhr

Book presentation as part of the „Erlesenes“ series“

Organiser:
- Fritz Hüser Institute for Literature and Culture of the Working World, Dortmund
- Foundation for the History of the Ruhr Area, Bochum

The largest collection of materials and data on the history and future of human labour: this interdisciplinary project in seven volumes provides surprising insights into the history of human labour from its beginnings to humanoid robots. Using over a thousand graphics, maps, tables and timelines as well as research findings, it traces the development of the productive and destructive forces of labour and their influencing factors: in the field of tension between poverty and wealth, the risks of technology, science and financial capitalism. Work will not only change as a result of digitalisation and automation. It is also about the question of how much ecologically ruthless labour we can still afford.

On this evening, the focus was on production methods in industrial capitalism as well as the current debate on time prosperity and the quality of labour. The audience was invited to contribute their own topics and questions.
