Fellow
Tim Kerig studied prehistory and early history, geology and classical archaeology in Tübingen, Copenhagen and Cologne. His doctorate at the University of Cologne focussed on the Neolithic settlement „Hanau-Mittelbuchen“. In 2016, he completed his habilitation in Leipzig with a thesis integrating economic concepts into archaeology. He has worked at numerous renowned research institutions, including University College London, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and Kiel University. He has been a professor at Leipzig University since 2024. His research interests include social inequality and the use of artificial intelligence to reconstruct prehistoric networks.
Publications His publications deal in particular with evolutionary archaeology, economic and social archaeology, environmental and mining archaeology of the European Neolithic, the history and theory of archaeology and quantitative methods in archaeology. He was excavation director, exhibition organiser and lecturer at numerous universities in Germany and abroad. Since 2025 he has been director of the Museum Alzey.
